Fuji Contactor SCE09AAA-C / SC-E02A – Installation, Maintenance & Replacement Cycle

Introduction
When an elevator controller commands the motor to start, the first component to move power is almost always a contactor. Fuji Electric’s SCE09AAA-C (global frame SC-E02A) is a 3-pole, 20 A AC-3 contactor designed for 5.5 kW (400 V) elevator brake and pump circuits. Nanjing Zhuye Elevator Parts (NYE) has stocked genuine Fuji SC-E02A coils and contacts since 2012, supplying over 15,000 pieces to 48 countries. This article explains how to select, mount and—crucially—when to replace this “silent switch” before worn contacts or a tired coil stall the car between floors.

Part-number breakdown
-
SC-E02A = Fuji SC-E frame size 2, 20 A AC-3, 25 A AC-1
-
SCE09AAA-C = 24 VDC coil, 1 N/O + 1 N/C auxiliary, 4 kW elevator duty, –25 °C…+60 °C
-
Contact material: AgCdO-free silver alloy, >100,000 electrical cycles @ 20 A
-
Safety first—lock-out & verify Contactor switches 380-480 VAC brake or pump circuits. Lock the upstream breaker, hang a lock-out tag and wait 60 s for the DC coil to discharge. Confirm zero energy with a CAT-III meter before touching any lug.
-
Mechanical mounting—keep it cool Overall size: 45 × 58 × 68 mm (without coil), mass 0.32 kg. Snap onto 35 mm DIN rail; torque M4 mounting screws 1.5 N·m if plate-mounted. Maintain 30 mm side clearance; every 10 °C rise halves contact life. NYE supplies a free DIN clip (NY-CLIP-SCE02) and vibration pad (NY-VIB-SCE02) to reduce structure-borne noise.
-
Wiring map (print and stick inside controller) L1/L2/L3 IN: 2.5 mm², 600 V, 105 °C silicone, torque 1.2 N·m
T1/T2/T3 OUT: same gauge to motor brake or pump
Coil: A1-A2, 0.5 mm², 105 °C, torque 0.8 N·m
Auxiliary: 13-14 (N/O), 21-22 (N/C), 1 mm², 30 V 5 A
PE: 4 mm² green/yellow to cabinet earth; leakage <1 mA -
Pick-up / drop-out test Apply 24 VDC; contactor must close in <20 ms, coil current 90 mA @ 20 °C.
Remove coil voltage; drop-out <15 ms.
If chatter or >30 ms delay, coil voltage is low or contact faces are oxidised—replace. -
Full-load heat run Connect 20 A resistive load for 1 h.
Temperature rise: coil <40 K, contact terminal <55 K @ 25 °C ambient.
Thermography: <70 °C on lug; hotter spots indicate loose terminals or worn contacts. -
Contact life calculation Fuji data: 100,000 cycles @ 20 A AC-3.
Translate to elevator duty: Light traffic (office, 300 starts/day) – 109 k cycles/year → replace ≈ 11 years; inspect every 3 years. Medium traffic (mall, 600 starts/day) – 219 k cycles/year → replace ≈ 5 years; inspect every 2 years. Heavy traffic (metro, 1,200 starts/day) – 438 k cycles/year → replace ≈ 2.5 years; inspect every 12 months. Mechanical life: 10 million cycles—electrical wear dictates the interval. -
Preventive inspection checklist Monthly: visual LED, listen for chatter during start. Quarterly: measure coil voltage; <20 VDC indicates low supply or high resistance. Annually: megger coil to contact >100 MΩ; <10 MΩ indicates moisture ingress. Bi-annually: torque test power terminals; vibration loosens them, causing overheating and fault F09.
-
Rapid swap (downtime < 3 min) a) Power down, lock-out, wait 60 s. b) Photograph L1/L2/L3 and A1/A2 orientation. c) Remove DIN clip, slide old contactor out. d) Insert new Nanjing Zhuye SCE09AAA-C, snap onto rail. e) Restore wires, torque 1.2 N·m power, 0.8 N·m coil. f) Power up, run pick-up/drop-out test. g) Log serial number and cycle counter; return old unit for recycling.

Recycling & sustainability Nanjing Zhuye offers prepaid UPS labels inside every carton.
Returned contactors are stripped: silver contacts refined, copper coil remelted, steel housing shot-blasted and reused.
One recycled SC-E02A saves 0.6 kg CO₂—enough to power the same elevator for a week.
By treating the Fuji SC-E02A as the muscle of the elevator—not just another “contactor”—you eliminate mysterious brake drops, reduce coil-callouts and keep passengers moving.
